BEHAVIORAL HEALTH TECH- FORENSIC
The Forensics Treatment Program is a 24/7 secured residential unit housing adults 18 years of age and older who meet the criteria for a court-ordered program. Occupants are typically under a mental health diagnosis with felony charges, but are deemed Incompetent to stand trial.
POSITION SUMMARY:The Behavioral Health Technician is responsible for providing direct care to patients with a behavioral health illness which includes observing and monitoring patient behavior; assisting patients with activities of daily living (ADL); assisting other staff to ensure patients participate in prescribed treatment and activities, leading activity groups and community meetings, admitting and orienting patients to the Forensics Residence unit and assuring all unit tasks are completed properly. Work is performed under the close supervision of the unit nurses.
QUALIFICATIONS:High school diploma or equivalent required. Experience in the mental health field or health care setting preferred. BHT certification preferred. Must have the ability to communicate clearly and appropriately with patients, co-workers, and visitors. Must have leadership skills. Must have a reliable source of transportation, a valid driver’s license, and automobile insurance (if driving on the job).
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Abilities in reaching, bending, talking, fingering, sitting, carrying, standing, grasping, fine hand coordination, ability to hear, ability to read and write, and the ability to remain calm under stress. Ability to reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Specific vision abilities include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must be capable of lifting 50 pounds of dead weight alone. May be required to stand for an extended period.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:Inpatient behavioral health care setting. Fast-paced team approach. Multi-tasking. Requires above-average time management skills.
FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:• Monitoring patients according to program policies and procedures
• Assisting patients with ADLs according to the therapeutic environment.
• Maintaining the safety and security of the unit, including patients, staff, and visitors
• Accurate and timely completion of required patient documentation
• Managing and organizing the continuous workflow of the unit and workspace, including the cleanliness of the environment.
• Providing appropriate nutrition based on patients’ dietary needs as directed by the dietician.
• Other duties as assigned or needed as per program requirements.
