The MAT Peer Support Specialist serves as an advocate and positive role-model for patients within the MAT program. They support and appropriately advocate for patient recovery. Collaborate with MAT program staff and patient to develop targeted interventions to optimize success of long-term recovery.

POSITION SUMMARY:
Introduce the philosophy of recovery, which provides an environment of respect, compassion, empathy, safety, trust, and inclusion. Recovery is a holistic approach which emphasizes individuals' ability to lead fulfilling lives beyond the impact of mental health challenges or substance use disorders. This philosophy is grounded in knowing recovery is a deeply personal, unique process of change, growth, and self- discovery.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum of a high school diploma or GED with approximately 2-3 years of relevant experience in peer support as related to job scope. Preferred certification as a Recovery Support Specialist or Certified Recovery Peer Support with applicable knowledge of interpreting documents and critical thinking skills.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Per a recovery-oriented system of care (ROSC) approach, emphasize prevention, intervention, treatment, and post-treatment collaboration, which include stigma reduction, screenings, outreach services, alternative services and therapies, continuing care, and self-monitoring.
- Complete “Welcome session” with all intake patients. These sessions will focus on providing a fundamental understanding of the basic MAT Program expectations, including daily dosing, hours of operation, drug screening, clinical requirements, telehealth availability, mental health service availability, and other individualized case management needs that can be addressed during treatment.
- Assist in identifying patient strengths, limitations, risk factors, needs, and progress of the patient to share with the MAT treatment team.
- Assist the patient with agency and community referrals that address housing, food, transportation, domestic violence needs, etc.
- Attend and participate in MAT patient consultations and treatment team meetings.
- Facilitate weekly patient groups within MAT and Residential settings, with a focus on Opioid abuse education, MAT services, and/or recovery education.
- Meet with the supervisor to review cases and documentation.
- Assist the patient population with the resolution of unforeseen barriers to completing safe clinical or medical treatment services.
- Protect patient rights to privacy and confidentiality in the preparation and handling of records.
- Assist the MAT medical and clinical staff in the safe management of patients presenting with symptoms of substance impairment.
- Assist the MAT team in maintaining patient records to a “current” and accurate standard.
- Complete FATOD surveys with all intake patients.
- Informs the patient and family of confidentiality rights and the exceptions imposed by regulations.
- Follow up with MAT patients who abruptly disengage program services and share findings with the MAT treatment team.
- Provide a peer mentor perspective to the MAT treatment team.
- Maintain respect and non-judgmental attitudes toward patients in all contacts.
- Understands applicable confidentiality regulations and ensures that all staff maintain confidentiality when sharing information in clinical consultation
- Complete individual recovery support sessions with MAT patients as needed and complete all related documentation within the timeframe established by the supervisor.
