POSITION SUMMARY:
Provides direct nursing care to patients with behavioral health disorders based on a systematized body of knowledge. Oversees care provided by Licensed Practical Nurses and Behavioral Health Technicians. Utilizes nursing process including assessment, identification of nursing problems, planning, execution, evaluation and modification of nursing interventions as determined by patient outcomes. Acknowledges, coordinates and implements diagnostic and therapeutic orders. Assures patient safety through safe administration of medications, prevention of violent behavior, patient injury, and infection control. Participates as a contributing member of the multidisciplinary treatment team. Participates in Quality Improvement activities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Diploma, Associate, or Baccalaureate Degree from an NLN approved program with 1 year experience preferred. Current, unrestricted license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Florida. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, patients, families, employees, and the general public. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to multi-task, display decision-making and critical thinking skills, and basic computer skills.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Abilities in reaching, bending, talking, fingering, sitting, carrying, standing, grasping, fine hand coordination, ability to hear, ability to read and write, and the ability to remain calm under stress. Ability to reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Specific vision abilities include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Must be capable of lifting 50 pounds of dead weight alone. May be required to complete standing presentations involving speaking and listening to audience.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Outpatient and secured inpatient psychiatric health care settings. Fast-paced team approach. Multi-tasking, requiring above average time management skills.

FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Assess physiological, psychosocial, and environmental needs of patients.
  • Implement the plan of care based on nursing standards and practice.
  • Evaluate the appropriateness of nursing interventions defined in the plan of care.
  • Ensure accurate and complete required documentation by Behavioral Health Technicians and Licensed Practical Nurses.
  • Demonstrate competency in critical-thinking and decision-making skills.
  • Monitor staff and continuous work-flow of the unit.
  • Share professional and technical knowledge in accordance with policies and procedures.

COMPLIANCE RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Adheres to all applicable federal, state, local, and company maintained standards of compliance, ethics, and policies concerned with the administration and delivery of agency services.
  • Meets deadlines, requirements, and expectations as established by the supervisor, agency and department.
  • Completes administrative functions and data entry timely and accurately.
