Baker Act Specialist

The Baker Act Specialist is considered a highly regarded administrative position requiring technical knowledge of the Florida Mental Health Act (Baker Act) regulations and procedures. The primary duties of the position is to process documents, attend court hearings, acting as liaison among concerned parties, both within and outside Ibis Healthcare, with regard to Baker Act issues. Reports to and functions under the direction, instruction, and supervision of the Provider Services & Baker Act Office Program Supervisor and Adult Services Program Supervisor.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a related field of study, plus a minimum of one year of experience
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret clinical records, procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports and document clinical activities and effectively communicate verbally with, provide information to, and respond to questions from managers, patients, service providers, managed care entities, family members, and other stakeholders.
  • Proficient and strong ability to utilize Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point & Avatar
  • May require reliable transportation with liability insurance, a valid Florida driver's license, and a good driving record are also required (minimum age requirement of 21 years of age or older).

FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepares, distributes and maintains appropriate files, forms, reports and notifications with regard to consumers admitted, transferred and discharged under BA-32, BA 52, and BA 01.
  • Prepares and submits appropriate forms for consumers transferred from involuntary status to voluntary status if the attending physician deems them to be an imminent danger.
  • Applies knowledge of current Baker Act statute and administrative rules and advises Gracepoint staff as necessary. Keeps current with changes in the Baker Act statute and the DCF Administrative Code
  • Serves as liaison among internal and external parties concerned with Baker Act issues: HIM, DCF, local and state hospitals, Hillsborough County Court, Adult Advocacy & Representation and other guardian advocate agencies, consumers and their representatives/families.
  • Provides daily reports on expiration dates and time for all BA52s on the units to ensure statutory compliance.
  • Provides tentative & final dockets once received from Public Defender.
  • Provides copies of court orders received in a timely fashion.
