The Prevention Specialist will provide advocacy and care to clients and their families on clinical prevention for clients at risk in the community for chemical dependency. Our Prevention Services program promotes healthy lifestyles and builds resilience by addressing the root causes of substance use before crisis occurs. Prevention Specialists will equip individuals with evidence-based tools to make informed choices and strengthen decision-making skills that last a lifetime. Reports to program/unit supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in a Human Services-related discipline plus 1 year of applicable experience.
- Ability to analyze and write reports and document clinical activities and effectively communicate verbally with, provide information to, and respond to questions from managers, patients, service providers, managed care entities, family members, and other stakeholders.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- May require a valid Florida Driver's license, insurance, and reliable source of transportation.
- Knowledge of the 12-step program, behavior modification, case management, and addiction.
FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct assessments and evaluations to develop and implement treatment plans for clients.
- Provide case management services for juvenile arbitration in coordination with the Department of Corrections (DOC).
- Offer individual, group, and family therapy as necessary and offer crisis intervention as needed.
- Prepare and maintain clinical records, as well as submit the required reports as needed.
- Participate in clinical staffing and team meetings.
- Make referrals and provide feedback to appropriate resource agencies.
- Engage in staff development activities.
- Assist in the training and education of other staff members, interns, and students.
- Deliver science-based prevention services, such as Project Be Aware.
- Present drug education and related topics to the school system and community.
- Plan and implement the "Say No to Drugs" Summer Camp.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This role is primarily community-based, with a combination of engaging with the general public and on office-based administrative responsibilities. Community settings may include hours spent outdoors in various conditions. Frequent exposure to clients; interface with community agencies as appropriate; events in a variety of socioeconomic neighborhoods; hospital-based environment with direct exposure to clients. Fast paced. Multi-tasking requires above-average time management skills. Team approach.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Abilities include reaching, bending, talking, sitting, carrying, standing, grasping, fine hand coordination, hearing, reading, writing, and staying calm under stress. Must be able to reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, maintain balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Vision abilities required include close-up, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must be capable of lifting 50 pounds alone. May be required to give standing presentations involving speaking and listening to the audience.
